It has been continuously manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes since 1967. With 5,000 sold it is the most produced commercial passenger jet aircraft of all time.

History
The 737 was born out of Boeing's need to field a competitor in the short range, small capacity jetliner market which had been opened up by the BAC 1-11 and the Douglas DC-9. Boeing was badly behind, however, when the 737 program was initiated in 1964, as both of these rivals were already into their flight certification programs. To speed up the development time Boeing reused as much technology from the existing 707 and 727 as possible, most notably the fuselage. This gave the 737 a critical advantage over the opposition, six abreast seating compared to the 1-11 and DC-9's five abreast layout. It also made the 737 cheaper and quicker to design. But the decision also dated the design and created problems for future modernization which still haunts the current Next Generation series to this day.

The short and stubby appearance of the first 737-100 earned it the nickname among Boeing engineers as "FLUF", being an acronym for "Fat Little Ugly Fella", although the industry affectionately called it the "Baby Boeing". The -100 and -200 series are identifiable by their tubular engine nacelles which are integrated into the wing and project both fore and aft. The engines used on the original 737 models are Pratt and Whitney JT8D turbofans. The originals can also be identified by the smoothly curving upsweep of the vertical stabilizer whereas the classics and NG models have a noticeable kink at the base.

The first 737, a 100 series, took its maiden flight April 9, 1967, and entered service in February, 1968, with Lufthansa, the first foreign airline to launch a new Boeing plane. The 737-200 made its maiden flight on August 8, 1967. Lufthansa was the only customer to purchase the 737-100 new and only 30 aircraft were ever produced. The lengthened 737-200 was widely preferred and was produced until 1988. The launch customer of the 737-200 was United Airlines. In the early 1980s the 737 had its first major facelift. The biggest change was the CFM International CFM56 engines replacing the JT8Ds. The CFM56 was larger than the previous P&W unit, so the engine was slung underneath the wing rather than built into it. This posed a problem as the 737's limited ground clearance, a trait of the 707 derived fuselage, meant that the bottom surface of the engine nacelle had to be flattened out. At the same time the 737 gained a partial glass cockpit from the 757 and 767. The first 737-300 entered service in 1984.

By the 1990s the 737 had lost ground technologically to the newer Airbus A320. In 1993, Boeing initiated the 737-X or Next Generation (NG) program. The Next Generation 737 encompassed the -600, -700, -800, and -900, and amounted to what was a complete redesign of the 30 year old airliner. New wings, new avionics, and revised engines were the biggest engineering changes. The 737 was given a hi-tech glass cockpit with LCD screens and digital systems heavily inspired by that used on the 777. An all new interior was designed for the Next Generation 737, again borrowing heavily from the 777. The 737NG is an entirely new aircraft sharing very little with previous 737s other than fuselage frames. The parts count is down by about 33%, reducing weight and simplifying maintenence greatly. Additional changes since its introduction include a new interior and performance enhancing winglets which reduce fuel consumption and improve takeoff and climb performance. Boeing stopped short, however, of retrofitting fly-by-wire as used on the A320 on the grounds of cost.

In 2001, the 737 was stretched one more time to create the 737-900 which is, in fact, longer and carries more passengers than the 707, and steps into the capacity of the 757-200. As a result of weak demand Boeing closed the 757 line in 2004. Early in 2005, the 737 lost its distinctive "eyebrow" windows in the cockpit, once a requirement of the 1960s for added taxiway visibility, but now deemed unnecessary. A retrofit kit will be offered to remove the windows on existing aircraft.

Boeing is rumored to be working on a higher capacity version of the 737-900, the extra seats being made possible by adding more exit doors. However, with the 737's basic design now approaching 40 years of age, and with the fuselage having already been stretched to its absolute limit, it is clear that further updates will follow the law of diminishing return. Boeing has already hinted that a clean sheet replacement for the 737 will be the company's next major project after the 787, although it is still unclear if the existing 737 will receive yet one more facelift in the next 7 to 10 years.

Variants
There have been three basic generations of the 737 known as the Original, Classic, and Next Generation (NG) models.

-Original: the 737-100 and -200 (Produced from 1967 - 1988)
-Classic: the 737-300, -400, and -500 (Produced from 1983 - 2000)
-Next Generation or NG: 737-600, -700, -800, and -900 (Produced from 1997 - )

Some versions in different generations correspond to each other in size. These are:
- 737-100 Smallest, original layout
- 737-200 Extended version of the -100 in order to accommodate the US market

Subvariants include:
- 737-221 (Pan American World Airways)
- 737-222 (United Airlines)
- 737-233 (Air Canada)
- 737-2B7 (USAir)
- 737-500, 737-600 Shortened versions of the -300 and -700 respectively
- 737-300, 737-700 The new base models, slightly stretched over the 737-200
- 737-400, 737-800 Stretched versions mostly to accommodate charter and business airlines
- 737-900 and 900X Recent versions stretched even further to close a gap in Boeing's product line-up
- 737-700IGW, 737-800ERX These variants have been awarded military contracts (see Military variants below), but the specifications have not yet been made public.

When referring to variants of the 737, Boeing and the airlines often collapse the model (737) and the capacity designator (-300, -800, etc.) into a smaller form, either 733 or 738. The exception is the 737-700 which is abbreviated as 73G in order to avoid confusion with the model number itself. These notations may be found in aircraft manuals or airline timetables.

Also in production is the Boeing Business Jet (BBJ and BBJ2). The BBJ is based on the 737-700 but is fitted with the stronger wings from the 737-800, while the BBJ2 is based upon the 737-800. The BBJ has increased range, by use of extra fuel tanks, over the other 737 models and is currently operated by some airlines on premium flights between North America and Europe.

The vast majority of 737s in commercial revenue service are the Classic and NG models - the Original models are quickly heading for extinction due to poor fuel efficiency, high noise emissions, (despite the vast majority having had their JT8Ds fitted with hush kits) and escalating maintenence costs. A large number of -200s are still in operation with "second tier" airlines and those of developing countries. No 737-100 remains in airworthy condition, however the original Boeing prototype, now owned by NASA, is now exhibited in the Museum of Flight in Seattle.

Military variants
There are several versions of the 737 with special duties.
- T-43, a 737-200 - Used to train aircraft navigators for the U.S. Air Force.
- C-40 Clipper, a 737-700 - The U.S. Navy's replacement for the C-9 Skytrain II.
- Project Wedgetail, a 737-700IGW - This is an AEW&C version of the 737NG. Australia is the first customer with Turkey, South Korea, and Italy anticipated.
- Multimission Maritime Aircraft (MMA), a 737-800ERX - On June 14, 2004, Boeing's Integrated Defense Systems division beat Lockheed Martin in the contest to replace the P-3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft. Eventual orders will probably exceed 100 from the U.S. Navy with other orders from foreign navies certain to follow.

This article is licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License. It is on the island of Sulawesi, and borders Central Sulawesi and North Sulawesi provinces. Gorontalo was split off from North Sulawesi in December 2000,
As of 2004, Gorontalo Province has four regencies (Bonebolango, Gorontalo, Boalemo, and Pohuwato) and one city (Gorontalo, located at 0°34'N 123°4'E). Therefore the name of Gorontalo may refer to three different area names (province, regency, and city). The capital of Gorontalo Province is Gorontalo; the capital of Gorontalo Regency is Limboto. The area of Gorontalo Province is about 12,215 km² with the total population in 2004 about 887,000 people.

Our Destination Makassar

Makassar

Makassar, (Macassar, Mangkasar) is the provincial capital of South Sulawesi, Indonesia. From 1971 to 1999, the city was formally named Ujung Pandang, after a precolonial fort in the city, and the two names are often used interchangeably. The port city is located at 5°8'S 119°25'E, on the southwest coast of the island of Sulawesi, facing the Makassar Strait.
Its area is 175.77 km² and has population of 1.25 million.

History

Beginning in the sixteenth century, Makassar was the dominant trading/pao center of eastern Indonesia, and soon became one of the largest cities in island Southeast Asia. The Makassarese kings maintained a strict policy of free trade, insisting on the right of any visitor to do business in the city, and rejecting the attempts of the Dutch to establish a monopoly over the city. Further, tolerant religious attitudes meant that even as Islam became the dominant faith in the region, Christians and others were still able to trade in the city. With these attractions, Makassar was a key center for Malays working in the Spice Islands trade, as well as a valuable base for European and Arab traders from much further afield.
The importance of Makassar declined as the Dutch became more powerful in the region, and were better able to enforce the monopoly over the spice trade that they desired. In 1667 the Dutch, allied with the Bugis prince Arung Palakka, invaded and captured Makassar, eliminating its role as an independent trading center.

Economy

The city is southern Sulawesi's primary port, with regular domestic and international shipping connections. It is nationally famous as an important port of call for the pinisi boats, sailing ships which are among the last in use for regular long-distance trade.
During the colonial era, the city was famous for being the namesake of Makassar oil, which it exported in great quantity. Makassar ebony is a warm black, streaked with deep red, and highly prized for fine cabinetry and veneers.
Makassar is also a major fishing center in Sulawesi. One of its major industries is the trepang industry.

Our Destination Kupang

Kupang

Kupang is the provincial capital of East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. It is located at 3°20'S 114°35'E, on a delta island near the junction of the Barito and Martapura rivers. As a result, Banjarmasin is sometimes called the "River City". Its population is about 444,000 (1991), making it the largest city on Borneo.
An important deepwater port, it is the trade center of the rich Barito basin; exports include rubber, pepper, timber, petroleum, coal, gold, and diamonds. There is a large oil refinery, and coal mines and sawmills are in the vicinity. The city is a centre for boatbuilding, especially of the pinisi sailing schooners used for inter-island trade.
The city is laced with flood-prone waterways, and many houses are built on rafts or stilts over the waterr. A floating marketplace, where buyers and sellers visit by boat, is located on the western outskirts of town.
The Sabila Muhtadin Mosque, located along the Martapura riverfront, is a major landmark in the city. Built in 1980, it accommodates thousands of worshippers for Friday prayers. The pontianak is usually a woman who died during childbirth and becomes undead, seeking revenge and terrorizing villages. She often appears as a beautiful woman, usually accompanied by the strong scent of frangipani. Men who are not wary will be killed when she morphs into a hideous vampire, she will also eat babies and harm pregnant women.
People believe that having a sharp object like a nail helps them fend off potential attacks by pontianaks, the nail being used to plunge a hole in the back of the pontianak's neck. It is believed that when a nail is plunged into the back of a pontianak's neck, she will turn into a beautiful woman, until the nail is pulled off again. The Indonesian twist on this is plunging the nail into the apex of the head of the kuntilanak.

Our Destination Balikpapan

Balikpapan

Balikpapan is a city (population 309,234 1990) on the island of Borneo, in Indonesia. It is some 65 km (40 miles) northeast of Yogyakarta, and 100 km (60 miles) southeast of Semarang. The city was a center of power during the 18th century Mataram Kingdom.

Name

The local inhabitants are more familiar with and use the name of "Solo" or "Sala" for the city, rather than "Surakarta". "Surakarta" is however used in formal and official contexts. The city has similar name with neighboring district of "Kartasura", which the preceded capital of Mataram located.

Geography

The eastern part of the town is bordered by Bengawan Solo River, the longest river on Java. The river is the inspiration for the song Bengawan Solo, a 1940s composition by Gesang Martohartono which became famous throughout much of Asia.

Government

The royal head of Surakarta has the title Susuhunan.

History

This is the older of the two royal cities in Central Java (the other is Yogyakarta), and its ruling family can lay claim to being the rightful heirs to the Mataram dynasty. Like Yogya, Solo has two royal palaces and a number of museums, yet its tourist industry is nowhere near as developed. The city's main source of income is from textiles, and Solo has the biggest batik market on Java. Solo also makes an ideal base from which to visit the home of Java Man at Sangiran, as well as the intriguing temples Candi Ceto and Candi Sukuh.

Founding The Dynasty

Serials of wars were clashed between the Adipati (dukes) following the death of the last Sultan of Demak Bintoro, the first Islamic kingdom in Java. One of prominent powerful dukes was Jaka Tingkir, son-in-law of the late sultan. After defeated the last opponent duke of Jipang-Panola, Jaka Tingkir aka. Sultan Hadiwijaya claimed the throne and moved the capital to the city of Pajang, located ± 8 miles from the present-day Surakarta. His adopted son, Sutawijaya, set a conspiracy and killed him with the favor of an assassin. Then, he ascended the throne and once again, moved the capital to Mataram in present-day province of Jogjakarta, and the new dynasty was founded. It was such an irony to find out that Sutawijaya was the man of the battle which fought against the duke of Jipang-Panola and killed the duke, gained the victory for Pajang.

Pakubuwono II

Up until 1744, Solo was little more than a quiet backwater village, 10km east of Kartasura, the contemporary capital of the Mataram kingdom. But in that year the Mataram susuhunan (king), Pakubuwono II, backed the Chinese against the Dutch, and the court at Kartasura was sacked as a result. Pakubuwono II searched for a more auspicious spot to rebuild his capital, and in 1745 the entire court was dismantled and transported in a great procession to Surakarta, on the banks of the Kali Solo. It was said that the place he chose to be the new palace was cited on a small lake. It was also said by the "babad" or official record of court historians that the lake was drain by the favor of the mythical queen of southern sea, Nyi Roro Kidul. However, the decline continued, and in 1757, after the kingdom of Mataram was divided to Surakarta Sunanate (northern court) and Jogjakarta Sultanate (southern court), another rival royal house of Mangkunegoro was established by Raden Mas Said aka. Pangeran Samber Nyowo (The Slayer Prince) right in the centre of Solo. It marked the success of Dutch's politic in East Indies, which was known as "divide et impera" (divide and conquer). Mataram held so much influence in Java, yet it remained nothing more than falling under the Dutch's hands. Thereafter, Solo's royal houses wisely avoided fighting and instead threw their energies into the arts, developing a highly sophisticated and graceful court culture. The gamelan pavilions became the new theatres of war, with each city competing to produce the more refined court culture. Wayang Kulit and Wayang Wong are several theatrical arts still performed today.

Pakubuwono X

Perhaps the most significant ruler of the twentieth century, was Pakubuwono X. His relationship with the Dutch, and his large family, and his popularity contributed to perhaps the largest funeral procession that ever occurred in Solo. He had contributed large expenditure on the Royal Graveyard at Imogiri in the main sections of the graveyard, as well as towards the new section that he was buried in.

Local dialect

Although people in Central Java use the same language named "boso jowo" ("basa jawa", Javanese) they have special characteristics which differentiate them from which region they come. For example, for the word "cold" ("dingin" in Indonesian, especially for weather), people in Surakarta use the word "adem", but people in Semarang use the word "atis". The Javanese language of Surakarta and Jogjakarta is well known as the standard for all Javanese speakers throughout the nation.

Our Destination Semarang

Semarang

Semarang is a city on the north coast of the island of Java, Indonesia. It is the capital of the province of Central Java. It has an area of 373.67 km² and approximately 1.5 million people making it the Indonesia's fifth largest city . Semarang is located at 6°58'S 110°25'E. A major port during the Dutch colonial era, and still an important port today, the city is known in Indonesia for its large ethnically Chinese population. The name of the city, Semarang, may have originated from the concatenation of the words "asem" (tamarind) and "arang" (rare). Another version is that Semarang is originated from chinese word Sam Po Lang (San Bao Loong), mean the city of Sam Po (Admiral Zheng He).

History

Semarang's history dates back to the ninth century, when it was known as Bergota. By the end of fifteenth century, an Arab mullah with the name of Kyai Pandan Arang founded a village and an Islamic boarding school in this place. On 2 May 1547, after consulting Sunan Kalijaga, Sultan Hadiwijaya of Pajang declared Kyai Pandan Arang the first bupati (regent) of Semarang, thus culturally and politically, on this day Semarang was born.

In 1678, Sunan Amangkurat II promised to give control of Semarang to the Dutch East India Company (VOC) as a part of a debt payment. In 1682, the Semarang state was founded by the Dutch colonial power. On 5 October 1705 after years of occupations, Semarang officially became a VOC city when Susuhunan Pakubuwono I made a deal to give extensive trade rights to the VOC in exchange of wiping out Mataram's debt. VOC and later the Dutch East Indies government established tobacco plantations in the region, and built roads and railroads, making Semarang an important colonial trading centre.

Beginning in the 1920s the city became a center of leftist and nationalist activism. Particularly with the founding in the city of the Communist Party of Indonesia, Semarang became known as the "Red City". The Japanese military occupied the city, along with the rest of Java, in 1942 during Pacific War of World War II. During that time, Semarang was headed by a military governor (Shiko) from Japan and two vice governors (Fuku Shiko), one from Japan and one from local. After Indonesian independence in 1945, Semarang became the capital of Central Java province.
[edit]

Administration

The city of Semarang divided into 16 districts (kecamatan) and 177 sub-districts of (kelurahan). During the period of Dutch colonization, it was a popular destination for European residents. The city is famous for its cool air and the surrounding country regions of Tumpang, Batu, Singosari, and Turen. People in East Java sometimes call it "Paris van East Java." Malang was spared many of the effects of the Asian financial crisis, and since that time it has been marked by steady economic and population growth.

HistoryHundreds, even thousands of years ago before Malang became the second biggest city in East Java, Malang used to be the centre of government of the Kanjuruhan and Singosari Kingdom. In the following era, Malang regency became an important place when the government of Mataram Kingdom took hold of the area, making it the largest regency in East Java and since then the development of Malang regency has increased well.
The history of Malang Regency could be revealed through the Dinoyo inscription 760 AD as the primary official document to support the birth of Malang before a new inscription was discovered in 1986, which is so far not yet revealed. According to the inscription, it was concluded that the 8 th century was the beginning of the existence of Malang Regency's government due to the birth of King Gajayana's ruling of his kingdom in Malang. From the Dinoyo inscriptions, it is noted that the inscription used the "Candra Sengkala" or 'Cronogram" Calendar, and stated that the birth date of Malang Regency was on Jum'at Legi (sweet Friday) November 28, 760 AD. (L. Damaes: "Studed' Epigraphy d'Indonesia IV. 1952").
The city was incorporated into Mataram in 1614, then transferred to Dutch colonial rule. Malang was transformed under the Dutch; its cool climate as a result of its elevation, along with its proximity to the major port of Surabaya, made it a popular destination for Dutch and other Europeans. In 1879, Malang was connected to Java's railroad network, further increasing development and leading to increased industrialization.
Along with growth is urbanization. The government could not satisfy the population’s needs for affordable housing, which leads to the building of shanty towns along the rivers and rail tracks. Until this day, the shanty towns still exist, although some transformed into “better” housing.
[edit]Geography Malang CityMalang has a total area of 124,456 km². It shares its borders with Pasuruan (North), Lumajang (East), and Batu (West). Mount Bromo, one of Java's largest volcanoes and a major tourist attraction, is located just to the east of the city.

Demographics

There are roughly 780,000 people living in Malang. The population density is 5,000 – 12,000/km², with population growth of 3.9% per year.
[edit]Ethnic backgroundsThe racial makeup of the city is mainly of Javanese and Madura, with a small percentage of the Arabic and Chinese descendants. The people of Malang are known for their spirituality, dynamism, hard-work and particularly proud to be Arek Malang (AREMA).
[edit]ReligionLike most of Java, a large majority of Malang residents are Muslim; there are small minorities of Catholics, Hindus, and Buddhists. Many of buildings of worship still stand from their construction in the colonial era. For example, Jami Mosque (or Agung Mosque), Sacred Heart Church (Gereja Hati Kudus Yesus) in Kayutangan, Saint Therese Cathedral (Gereja Ijen or Katedral Santa Theresia) in Ijen Street, Eng An Kiong Buddhist Temple in Laksamana Martadinata Street. Malang is also famous for being the centre of religious education the many Islamic schools (pesantren) and bible seminars.
[edit]LanguageJavanese language and Madura language is the day-to-day language used by Malang people. Many of the native Malang youths adopt a dialect that is called 'boso walikan', it is simply done by reversing the pronunciation of the words, an example of this is by pronouncing “Malang” as “Ngalam” instead.

Art & Culture

Tari TopengAs a centre of tourism, Malang has a lot of places of interest which can be classified into local, regional, national and international standards, including traditional dance performances such as Tari Topeng (Mask dance), Jaran Pegon, Tari Beskalan (Beskalan Dance), etc. There are also 'Topeng' or Mask handicraft at the villages of Jabung and Kedungmonggo which have become a familiar landmark in Malang Regency

Our Destination Surabaya

Surabaya

Surabaya (formerly Soerabaja) is Indonesia's second-largest city, and the capital of the province of East Java. It is located on the northern shore of eastern Java at the mouth of the Mas River (Kali Mas) and the side of Strait of Madura.
The city is one of the busiest ports in the country. Its principal exports include sugar, tobacco and coffee. It has a large shipyard, and numerous specialized naval schools.
Surabaya derives its name from the words sura (shark) and buaya (crocodile), which have been told in local myth fighting each other in order to gain the title "the strongest and most powerful animal in the area". Now the two animals are used as the city's logo, the two facing each other while circling the city's monument, the "Tugu Pahlawan".

History Map of Surabaya from an 1897 English travel guideIn the fifteenth and sixteenth century, Surabaya was a sultanate and a major political and military power in eastern Java. It got into a conflict and was later taken by the more powerful Sultanate of Mataram in 1625 under Sultan Agung. It was one of Mataram's fiercest campaign, where they had to conquer Surabaya's allies, Sukadana and Madura and laid siege to the city before capturing it. With this conquest, Mataram then controlled almost the whole Java, with the exception of the Sultanate of Banten and the Dutch settlement of Batavia.
The expanding East Indies Companies then took the city over from a weakened Mataram in November 1743. Surabaya became a major trading center under the Dutch colonial government, and hosted the largest naval base in the colony.
In 1917 a revolt occurred amongst the soldiers and sailors of Surabaya, led by the Indies Social Democratic Association. The revolt was firmly crushed and the insurgents given harsh sentences.
During World War II Surabaya was captured by the Japanese in 1942, until the Allies bombed it in 1944. After that it was seized by Indonesian nationalists. However the young nation was soon put into conflict with the Allies-backed Dutch that tried to retake their colony. The Battle of Surabaya was one of the most important battle in the Indonesian revolution. It was started after British Brigadier General Mallaby was killed in car explosion in 8 November 1945 near Jembatan Merah (or the Red Bridge). The Allies gave an ultimatum to the Indonesian freedom fighters inside the city to surrender, but it was refused. The ensuing battle took place in 10 November.
The city was the re-occupied by the Dutch in 1947. Because of prolonged international pressure, the Dutch agreed to transfer the sovereignty of its colony in August 1949. Surabaya was ultimately incorporated into Indonesia in December 1949 and rebuilt.

The city

In her role as the main trading city in the eastern region of Indonesia, Surabaya has become one of the largest cities in Southeast Asia. Today, Surabaya's population is around three million. The areas surrounding Surabaya include Lamongan to the northwest, Gresik to the west, Bangkalan to the northeast, Sidoarjo to the south, and Mojokerto and Jombang to the southwest.
Currently, the Indonesian government is building the Suramadu Bridge between Surabaya and the island of Madura; when completed, it will be the longest bridge in the country. Madura is currently accessible by a ferry service that operates regularly from Surabaya's port, Tanjung Perak (literally means: "Silver Cape" in Indonesian).
Surabaya is home to Eastern Armada, one of two in the Indonesian Navy. Its strong maritime heritage is also reflected with the Submarine Monument, a real retired Russian submarine, called Pasopati, that was converted into a museum ship in the city centre.
Flooding is common in many areas of the city during the rainy season, mostly caused by clogged sewers and inept bureaucracy. The fact that Surabaya is located in a river delta and has a flat and relatively low elevation doesn't help the matter either.
Surabaya is the location of the only synagogue in Indonesia, although it is currently inactive.
Surabaya's zoo, opened in 1916, was the first in the world to have successfully bred orangutans in captivity.
Other points of interest includes:
Grand Mosque of Surabaya, the largest mosque in East Java Cheng Ho Mosque, the first mosque in Indonesia built with a Chinese style architecture Jales Veva Jaya Mahe Monument, a large, admiral like statue which commemorate Indonesian Navy Mpu Tantular Museum, has a large collection of ancient Javanese artifact

Eastern suburbs of Surabaya, overlooking Strait of Madura

Demography

Surabaya is second most populous city in Indonesia, after Jakarta. Most of its population is Javanese people. Notable minorities is Madurese from nearby Madura Island and Chinese Indonesian.
Most citizen speak a unique dialect of Javanese called Surabayan. This dialect is noted for equality and directness in speech. The usage of register is less strict than Central Javan dialect. The Surabaya dialect is actively promoted in local media, such as in local TV show, radio and traditional drama called Loedroek.
Urbanization is strong because of many industries in the city. As a result there was a large slum area.

Education

Surabaya has several major universities and other institutions with religious or technical specialties. One of them is Airlangga University (Unair), the oldest and largest public university in eastern Java, with eleven departments in a variety of fields, including an especially well-regarded medical school.
The Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember is one of the country's most selective technology institutions, and is well-known for its robotics, mechanical engineering, and marine engineering programs. As one of the Indonesian military's major naval ports, Surabaya is the site of the national Naval Military Academy.
Madurese form a significant portion of the city's population - estimates are between 25% and 33%, and the Madurese language influences the Surabayan dialect of Javanese spoken in the streets.

Our Home Base

Jakarta

Jakarta (also Djakarta or DKI Jakarta, formerly Batavia, as well as Jayakarta) is the capital and largest city of Indonesia. It borders the provinces of Bengkulu and South Sumatra. The original inhabitant of Lampung is the "Lampung" tribe, who speak a distinct language from other people in Sumatra and have their own alphabet. The province has a population of 6,654,354 (2000 census). A large portion of the current population of Lampung is descended from migrants from Java, Madura, and Bali. These migrants came both spontaneously, in search of more land than was available on the more densely populated islands, as well as part of the government's transmigration program, for which Lampung was one of the earliest and most important transmigration destinations.
Lampung is commonly known for its geographical instability in terms of earthquakes and volcanoes. The island is located about 20 kilometres south of Singapore, a 1 hour ferry ride away.
Once a wild island covered with jungle and inhabited by a few Orang Laut tribes, Batam changed in the 1960s when the Indonesian government made it a special development zone, later part of the Sijori Growth Triangle, enjoying free trade zone status.
In the last 40 years, jungle disappeared and Batam turned into a strong industrial centre, with population increasing from a few thousands in the early 1960s to 800,000 today. Among the local Chinese populace, Teochew and Mandarin are the primary lingua francas.
Such economic development attracted hundreds of thousands of Indonesian migrants from other islands causing ethnic tensions in a region that once was the heart of Malay culture.
Batam is also famous in the tourist industry mostly as a destination for Singaporeans. Its full name is Nanggröe Aceh Darussalam. Past spellings of its name include Acheh, Atjeh and Achin.
In the past, Aceh was known for its political independence and fierce resistance to control by outsiders, including the former Dutch colonists and the Indonesian government. From 1976 until the tsunami in 2004, Aceh was torn by a separatist conflict waged by the Free Aceh Movement against the Jakarta government rooted in issues over control of resources, and over cultural and religious issues. Aceh has substantial natural resources, including oil and gas - some estimates put Aceh gas reserves as being the largest in the world. Relative to most of Indonesia, it is a religiously conservative area.

Welcome to Our Blog

Our web on : http://www.sriwijayaair-online.com

For reservation :

Pastikan anda telah terdaftar sebagai agent online Sriwijaya Air
dengan mendapatkan user id dan password

Silahkan kirim kritik serta saran anda tentang kami
